PROJECT

Civil society actors as drivers of change in South Caucasus and Moldova

Project Description

This regional project aims to support newly established civil society organizations, grassroots groups, civic initiatives, and social and cultural movements in their role as trusted actors advancing the democratic process in the countries of the South Caucasus region and the Republic of Moldova.

With support from the project team and skilled facilitators, each selected organization will develop its own strategy mapping out its path, role in society and systemic change it is working to influence. Participants will have a chance to assess their own capacities and access tailored trainings, coaching, mentoring, consultations, study visits, and fellowships. They will also be able to strengthen connections with their communities, supporters, and volunteers, as well as to network with peers and partners in Armenia, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, and other countries.

Moreover, the selected organizations will have access to resources for research, building of thematic expertise, and participation in policy dialogue at the local, national, and international levels. They will explore if, why, and how to engage with the private sector, and how to self-organize and manage resources in an effective, transparent, and accountable way. Finally, project participants will be able to apply for flexible funding to support their organizational development and public campaigns.

Specific Objective

To strengthen the role of civil society actors as legitimate, inclusive and trusted governance actors advancing the democratisation process in the countries of South Caucasus and Republic of Moldova

Expected Results

The main results expected within the “Civil society actors as drivers of change in South Caucasus and Moldova” project refer to improved organisational capacity of newly established civil society organisations and civic initiative groups, as well as to strengthened linkages and engagement among civil society actors. Fifteen initiative groups/organisations will be selected as participants in the project, and will receive capacity building, technical and financial support. They will be assisted to develop their organisational strategic plans. Respecting the priorities identified by the organisations, these plans will form the basis of tailored capacity building activities for targeted civil society actors ranging from staff trainings, coaching and mentoring, to assistance with developing or improving organisational procedures, systems and policies. The civil society actors involved in the project will gain skills related to outreach and citizens’ engagement, advocacy and policy dialogue, enabling them to participate in mechanisms for policy dialogue at local, national and international levels. The project will facilitate linkages among various civil society actors and support them to build strategic partnerships. In addition, the private sector engagement with civil society will be encouraged, and the project participants will have the opportunity to learn and have valuable insights on their areas of interest, as well as to exchange data, get the useful and proper knowledge in project implementation and technology.
