{"id":106855,"date":"2023-02-04T23:05:45","date_gmt":"2023-02-04T21:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/?p=106855"},"modified":"2023-02-05T23:04:11","modified_gmt":"2023-02-05T21:04:11","slug":"eib-global-supports-reconstruction-of-roads-with-e100-million","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/en\/eib-global-supports-reconstruction-of-roads-with-e100-million\/","title":{"rendered":"EIB Global supports reconstruction of roads with \u20ac100 million"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The European Investment Bank (EIB), the bank of the European Union, and the Ministry of Finance of Moldova today signed on 15 December 2022 an agreement for a \u20ac100\u00a0million increase to the original <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eib.org\/en\/press\/all\/2013-092-moldovas-pm-leanca-signs-a-loan-for-upgrading-road-infrastructure-while-visiting-eib\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u20ac150 million loan<\/a> for the rehabilitation and upgrading of key national road sections. These sections are mainly on the extended trans-European transport network (TEN-T) and the Solidarity Lanes going through Moldova, contributing to better integration with the European Union.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this loan increase, EIB Global plans to finance the rehabilitation of an additional 42&nbsp;km of national roads and the construction of approximately 7 km of national roads in Moldova. The new operation will finance improvements to the H\u00eence\u0219ti\u2013Leova\u2013Cahul\u2013Giurgiule\u0219ti national road, which leads to Moldova\u2019s only international port of Giurgiule\u0219ti on the Danube River. The port enjoys a strategic position adjacent to Ukraine and to the European Union with Romania. The other segment involves the construction of a bypass around the town of Cimi\u0219lia to shift transit traffic on the TEN-T road away from the town centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EIB loan supports the goals of the EU Economic and Investment Plan for Moldova in the transport sector by spurring regional and national economic growth, facilitating trade, and supporting private sector development. This financing is covered by the Neighbourhood, Development and International Cooperation Instrument \u2014 Global Europe (NDICI \u2014 Global Europe) comprehensive guarantee.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Minister of Finance of Moldova Dumitru Budianschi<\/strong> said: \u201cBy signing this loan with the EIB, we are demonstrating our commitment to the rehabilitation and upgrading of key national road sections, which is becoming increasingly important for the economic development of the country and the wider region. Moldova\u2019s roads are vitally important for transport and for ensuring uninterrupted trade flows from Moldova and Ukraine to Romania, to the Danube River through the Moldovan port of Giurgiule\u0219ti, and to other EU countries. A well-functioning transport system is critical for economic growth. Upgrading Moldova\u2019s road infrastructure and promoting regional economic links while improving road safety and saving lives is a winning combination. The government appreciates the continued cooperation with the EIB and this timely investment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EIB Global and Moldova&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EIB will continue to contribute towards an economically strong, energy-independent and green Moldova.
