The European Union has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the security of the Republic of Moldova by providing tangible support to the country\u2019s law enforcement and defence institutions. During an official visit to Chisinau, European Commission Vice-President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, attended a presentation showcasing key equipment and technologies delivered by the EU through the\u00a0Integrated Response Mechanism for Ukraine\u00a0project and the\u00a0European Peace Facility.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event gathered representatives from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, and other senior government officials. Cutting-edge equipment for the General Police Inspectorate\u2019s Special Police Brigade \u201cFulger\u201d was displayed, including a mobile command centre, bulletproof vests, protective helmets, specialized vehicles, software and communication equipment. Additionally, the National Army showcased engineering equipment, a fully equipped field hospital, modern ambulances, drones and a robotic intervention tool.

\u201cThese contributions from the European Union play a vital role in strengthening the security of the Republic of Moldova by enhancing the response capacity of the internal security forces in the face of growing hybrid threats,\u201d said Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

Defence Minister Anatoli Nosatii also emphasized the importance of the support provided through the European Peace Facility:\u00a0“We are grateful that the European Union launched the European Peace Facility in 2021. That same year, the Council of Europe approved the first financial assistance package of \u20ac7 million for Moldova’s defence sector. Some of the equipment and technology purchased with this funding was showcased today. I want to take this opportunity to express gratitude to the EU Member States which, through this initiative, are helping to promote peace and security in the region. Together with our European partners, we are building a safer Moldova,” said Minister Nosatii.

European Commission Vice-President and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, reaffirmed EU’s commitment to strengthening Moldova’s security: <\/strong>

“The European Union continues to support Moldova. Since 2022, we have provided \u20ac197 million to assist Moldova’s armed forces and police and we will continue to stand by you. Defence is not only about military strength. It is also about communication, support for civilians, demining efforts, and ensuring the police and army have the equipment they need to be effective.”

The strategic dialogue held during the visit focused on enhancing European security cooperation, particularly through the EU’s Foreign Policy Instrument (FPI) and the European Peace Facility (EPF). Both instruments contribute to building Moldova’s institutional resilience and ability to respond to regional security challenges.

“Strengthening the response capabilities of our forces is key to resilience in the face of an atypical war \u2013 one that relies on unconventional tactics and technologies. The European Union’s contribution is essential to our national security and we deeply value the fact that we are standing together in these decisive times,” emphasized the Minister of Internal Affairs.

The event marked a reaffirmation of the strategic partnership with the European Union and a significant step toward a safer Moldova, prepared to face the challenges of an increasingly complex security landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
