{"id":133805,"date":"2025-04-29T14:40:31","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T11:40:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/?p=133805"},"modified":"2026-02-02T12:48:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T10:48:50","slug":"european-council-renews-the-restrictive-measures-for-those-destabilizing-the-situation-in-moldova","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/en\/european-council-renews-the-restrictive-measures-for-those-destabilizing-the-situation-in-moldova\/","title":{"rendered":"European Council renews the restrictive measures for those destabilizing the situation in Moldova"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The Council decided to prolong EU restrictive measures against those responsible for actions aimed at destabilizing, undermining or threatening the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova, until&nbsp;29 April 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These restrictive measures currently apply to a total of&nbsp;<strong>16 individuals<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>2 entities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those listed under the EU sanctions regime are subject to an&nbsp;<strong>asset freeze<\/strong>. It is also&nbsp;<strong>prohibited to make available funds or economic resources<\/strong>&nbsp;to them, either directly or indirectly. Additionally, a&nbsp;<strong>travel ban<\/strong>&nbsp;applies to the natural persons listed, preventing them from entering and transiting through the territories of EU Member States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its conclusions of 21-22 March 2024, the European Council reaffirmed its commitment to provide all relevant support to the Republic of Moldova in addressing the challenges it faces as a consequence of Russia\u2019s aggression against Ukraine, and to strengthen the country\u2019s resilience, security and stability in the face of destabilising activities by Russia and its proxies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>EU restrictive measures were first introduced in April 2023&nbsp;<strong>at the request of the Republic of Moldova<\/strong>&nbsp;in order to target persons responsible for supporting or implementing actions which undermine or threaten its sovereignty and independence, as well as the&nbsp;<strong>country\u2019s democracy, the rule of law, stability or security<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Efforts to destabilise Moldova have noticeably increased since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, and represent a direct threat to the stability and security of the external borders of the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU remains unwavering in its support for the Republic of Moldova and its peace, resilience, security, stability, and economic growth in the face of destabilizing activities by external actors.
