{"id":151982,"date":"2026-06-16T10:02:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-16T07:02:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/?p=151982"},"modified":"2026-06-16T10:02:29","modified_gmt":"2026-06-16T07:02:29","slug":"eu-opens-first-accession-negotiation-cluster-with-ukraine-and-moldova","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/en\/eu-opens-first-accession-negotiation-cluster-with-ukraine-and-moldova\/","title":{"rendered":"EU opens first accession negotiation cluster with Ukraine and Moldova"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Today, at the first Intergovernmental Conference, the European Union will open the first&nbsp; accession negotiation with Ukraine and Moldova with the cluster on fundamentals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement published on 12 June, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Ant\u00f3nio Costa said all Member States had agreed to open the first cluster with Ukraine and Moldova, and described it as&nbsp;<em>\u201cthe backbone of the accession process\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cIt covers the core values and principles on which the EU is built, from the rule of law to strong democratic institutions,\u201d&nbsp;<\/em>the EU leaders stated.&nbsp;<em>\u201cThis is a recognition of the determination, courage and hard work shown by both countries in advancing reforms, even in the face of immense challenges.
