{"id":39315,"date":"2020-07-27T06:51:42","date_gmt":"2020-07-27T06:51:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/?p=39315"},"modified":"2022-02-01T01:36:09","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T23:36:09","slug":"new-eu-supported-project-to-help-eastern-partner-countries-deal-with-organised-crime","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/en\/new-eu-supported-project-to-help-eastern-partner-countries-deal-with-organised-crime\/","title":{"rendered":"New EU-supported project to help Eastern partner countries deal with organised crime"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Governance, rule of law and human rights<\/li>\n<li>Strengthening Institutions &amp; good governance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>On 24 July, the European Commission and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Training (CEPOL) launched a new project to support the Eastern partner countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) in their fight against organised crime.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>\u201cWe are proud to contribute to the fight against organised crime in our partner countries as well as in the EU,\u201d said Lawrence Meredith, director for Neighbourhood East at the European Commission.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>\u201cOrganised crime networks operate across national borders and by intensifying cooperation, we can make sure crime does not pay. It is our common goal to create a safe and just society for all,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>The project \u2018TOPCOP\u2019 aims at improving operational effectiveness across the Eastern partner countries. It will also reinforce the connection between law enforcement training and operations and provide an up-to-date picture of organised crime in the region.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>The project will create networks of capacity-building contact points, to close any gaps between law enforcement training and operational law enforcement efforts. It will also identify learning needs to provide regional and targeted training based on evidence and commonalities. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>To support international law enforcement cooperation, the project will make full use of CEPOL\u2019s and Europol\u2019s long-standing expertise in assessing and delivering on law enforcement training needs, and analysing crime data. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>The European Commission has committed \u20ac6 million for this project, which will run for 48 months. \u2018TOPCOP\u2019 will be implemented by CEPOL and supported by the authorities of the Eastern partner countries and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement
