{"id":74176,"date":"2021-07-07T03:16:53","date_gmt":"2021-07-07T00:16:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/?p=74176"},"modified":"2022-02-01T01:54:55","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T23:54:55","slug":"ebrd-details-investment-in-giurgiuleti-international-free-port-in-moldova","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eu4moldova.eu\/en\/ebrd-details-investment-in-giurgiuleti-international-free-port-in-moldova\/","title":{"rendered":"EBRD details investment in Giurgiule&#x15F;ti International Free Port in Moldova"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strengthening Institutions &amp; good governance<\/li>\n<li>Governance, rule of law and human rights<\/li>\n<li>Connectivity, energy efficiency, environment and climate change<\/li>\n<li>Transport<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has published the details of its investment in Moldova\u2019s Giurgiule\u015fti International Free Port (Giurgiule\u015fti Port), one of the country\u2019s key strategic assets.<\/p>\n<p>The EBRD\u2019s support for the project started in 1995, when it provided a US$ 27.5 million financing package, comprising debt and equity, to Terminal S.A., a joint entity that had entered into a concession agreement with the government of Moldova to construct and operate Giurgiule\u0219ti Port.<\/p>\n<p>The EBRD\u2019s engagement continued with a series of complex financial restructurings to help the project overcome a number of difficulties, including the withdrawal of original investors. Since 2014, the port operator now called Danube Logistics SRL, its Dutch parent and, indirectly, the EBRD have been subject to various actions.<\/p>\n<p>To safeguard port operations and to safeguard and protect its financial interests, the EBRD became the sole ultimate legal owner of the operator of Giurgiule\u0219ti Port on 7 May 2021. Through its acquisition, the EBRD aims to support the port\u2019s continued operation and will seek to attract international investors to support and develop this key infrastructure asset.<\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span>The EBRD is owned by 69 countries \u2013 including Moldova \u2013 as well as the\u00a0European Union\u00a0and the\u00a0European Investment Bank.
