Project Description
Development of Rural Areas in the Republic of Moldova (DevRAM) PART II - Strengthening the water supply and sanitation infrastructure in rural areas focusing on safe wastewater disposal in the town of Cantemir.
The main goals of PART II of the DevRAM project focused on strengthening the water supply and sanitation infrastructure in Cantemir are:
- the construction of a new sewerage system in the center of Cantemir and the extension of the sewer network Cantemir town;
- the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for the town of Cantemir (5400 Population Equivalent capacity). The design of the WWTP will allow a future extension for the treatment of wastewater from neighboring localities;
- the optimization of the existing water supply system in Cantemir.
Optimization works will be implemented for the water supply system, which would allow a more efficient and sustainable operation;
- the implementation of a capacity development component to support Apă Canal Cantemir and Municipality of Cantemir and adapt the existing utility structures, taking into account the principles of cost covering tariffs and sustainable operation and maintenance, as well as social and environmental safeguards according to national and international standards.

Specific Objective
The specific objective of PART II is implementation of infrastructure interventions to improve safe water supply and sanitation and contribute to adaptation to climate change. Assistance to local authorities in tariff-setting and capacity building to ensure financial sustainability of the water and sanitation infrastructure operation and maintenance.
Expected Results
- Establish wastewater collection and rehabilitation of the existing sewer system an extension of the sewer network in Cantemir, total approximately of 21.2 km of pipeline.
- Construction of a tricking filter wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 5420 Population Equivalent.
- Optimisation of the Raw Water Pumping Station (RWPS). Replacement of existing borehole pumps with wastewater pumps, installation of vacuum pump and operation and maintenance facilities.
- Capacity development for water utility Apa-Canal Cantemir.
- Construction of a tricking filter wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 5420 Population Equivalent.

Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries of the DevRAM Project, PART II, are all the citizens of the Cantemir Municipality and some neighbouring vilages.
