Strengthening Civil society in ATU Gagauzia

Project Description
The project aims to empower local civil society actors in Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit (ATU) and to build bridges between civil society organizations and local authorities from ATU Gagauzia and other regions of Moldova.
Specific Objective
- To strengthen the capacities of up to 20 CSOs from Gagauzia.
- To facilitate and encourage partnerships of CSOs from the Gagauz ATU with counterparts from other regions of Moldova in order to strengthen confidence building through exchange of experience and good practices, building networks, and coalitions.
- To enhance civic activism of CSOs in the region to be able to influence the public policy of the People Assembly of Gagauzia, Executive Committee and Gagauzia governor (Bashkan) by reliable national and international expertise and advocacy.
- To support up to 10 good governance projects of CSOs in cooperation with local media from Gagauzia.
Expected Results
- To strengthen the capacities of up to 20 CSOs from Gagauzia for watch dogging civil servants' integrity; monitoring public policymaking; development, implementation and public budget oversight of authorities of ATU Gagauzia.
- To conduct a baseline survey. (The research showed that only 27 NGOs from over 500 included in the study are active according to the minimum standards developed by the experts. Also, the study shows legal problems, lack of knowledge on some aspects, lack of financial sustainability and human resources. The study provided data on the citizen’s perception of the non-profit sector and proved that similar to the national level people have a lack of trust and information about the work of NGOs.)
- To engage with 20 CSOs and strengthen their capacity to conduct watchdog activities with authorities from Gagauzia ATU.
- To integrate capacity building program that will include a training program, study visits and internships, institutional capacity building and on-the-job coaching.
- After implementing the activities related to this objective, 20 NGOs will acquire the necessary skills to be able to prepare reliable project proposals for the grant award in the next stage of the project.
- To facilitate and encourage partnerships of Gagauz CSOs with counterparts from other regions of Moldova, in order to strengthen confidence-building through exchange of experience and good practices, building networks and coalitions.
- To facilitate and encourage partnerships between CSOs from Gagauzia and NGOs from other regions.
