ФИНАНСИРУЕМАЯ ЕС ПОДДЕРЖКА ПО РЕФОРМИРОВАНИЮ ТРАНСПОРТНОГО СЕКТОРА В МОЛДОВЕ ДОСТИГАЕТ ЦЕЛЕЙ

The EU-funded technical assistance project “Support to the Reform of the Transport Sector in the Republic of Moldova” ends on 31 March 2020 and is now counting its achievements.

Between October 2018 and April 2020, the technical assistance project provided support to the transport sector reform in line with the transport chapter of the EU-Moldova Association.

The project supported the modernization of all transport modes in the Republic of Moldova. For example, in the Waterborne sector the Flag and Port State Control functions now have an EU harmonized legal framework and the organizational processes is updated. The Naval Agency has documents and procedures in place enabling it to become more functional and operational. Naval Agency staff was trained on modern and competitive maritime management aspects focusing on running an open ship registry.

The railway sector has new secondary legislative acts in line with EU requirements and the new Railway (safety) Authority has an operational framework making it more ready to be established.

The road transport institutions personnel were trained on EU legislation and best practices on how to integrate safety in all phases of planning, design and operation of road infrastructure. The road transport sector has now a legal framework to support training of commercial drivers based on EU practices. Also, the legal and operational framework for type approval of vehicles and trailers was prepared and ready for further promotion. Enforcement of EU legal acts on driving and rest time, tachographs, dangerous goods transport, speed limitation devices, and weight measurement is now ready to be promoted and adopted.

The civil aviation sector benefits now from an upgraded legal and operational framework leading to an improved capacity to assess airworthiness of aircraft and aeronautical products, parts and appliances and the organizations and personnel involved in these tasks.

The project, with the contribution of European Union of approximatively 900,000 EUR, assisted the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure and its subordinated institutions such as the Naval Agency, National Road Transport Agency, Civil Aviation Authority and State Enterprise “Moldovan Railways”.
