On 14 May 2022, the Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova, together with the EU Member States Embassies, organised the European Village in Chișinău, heart of the capital city – a large-scale one-day event – promoting the culture and values of the European Union, as well as highlighting the assistance provided by the European Union and its Member States, under Team Europe approach, to the Republic of Moldova for the benefit of the citizens across the country.

The event was organised in the context of the Europe Day 2022, under the overarching theme of SOLIDARITY FOR PEACE.

The traditional European Village opened its gates again in 2022, in physical format, in Chișinău, in the Grand National Assembly Square. The one-day event was launched through a press conference with the participation of the Ambassador of the European Union, Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassadors of the EU Member States and mass media from the Republic of Moldova.

The Village exhibited the assistance of the European Union thought the EU funded projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova, as well as through concrete beneficiaries, who came to display their products and communicate about the tangible results, with the support of the European Union. The exhibition took place on the alley symbolically entitled “EU-Moldova: Stronger Together”. Moreover, the EU Member States Embassies also displayed the support provided by their countries to the Republic of Moldova and their traditional European cuisine, on the alley entitled “Team Europe”. Overall, 27 EU funded projects show-cased their results to the public at large, and 15 EU Member States Embassies participated in the fair by organising thematic quizzes, ruffles and distributing visibility materials.

In addition, the European Village in Chisinau comprised activities organised in the Debates Pavilion for the visitors of the fair, including a thematic debate “Partnerships for the development of social services” organised by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Moldova and Institutum Virtutes Civilis (“Partnerships 4 Women Leadership and Good Governance” project).

Furthermore, the Debates Pavilion hosted a workshop for youth, titled “Ingredients for a successful career”, comprised of two presentations for your, particularly the Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities in the Republic of Moldova, led by “Support to Vocational Education and Training in the Field of Green Economy Project”, and a session on study opportunities for youth in the EU, session led by the Erasmus EU-funded project.

Moreover, youth took part in an intellectual game dedicated to Europe Day, titled “EU means: Peace. Unity. Solidarity”. The game was organised to celebrate the European Year of Youth, marked throughout 2022. The intellectual game was broadcasted live, as well.

Similarly, the Children’s Corner, gathered numerous creative and entertaining activities for children, organised by EU funded projects’ teams.

The visitor of the European Village in Chisinau also attended the NGO fair, where more than 30 NGOs, supported by the EU, show-cased and presented the social services provided by them in various regions of the county.

Throughout the day, the visitors observed the equipment and vehicles purchased for firefighters and the national emergency service with EU support, gathered under a large exhibition, where children and adults took part in first aid training and tested some of the equipment, under the supervision of the staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

All events, part of the European Village in Chisinau, were attended by the Ambassador of the European Union, Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassadors of the EU Member States, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Natalia Gavrilița, along with other state officials.

The European Village in Chisinau was followed, in the evening, by an exceptional concert “Solidarity for Peace” by Moldovan artists and a special guest from Ukraine, the rock band “Bez Obmejeny/ Без Обмежень”.

Closer to the end of the concert, the Arch of Triumph, located in the heart of Chișinău, was illuminated in the colours of the flag of the European Union.

The concert “Europe Day 2022: Solidarity for Peace” was broadcasted live on EU Delegation social media platforms.

The European Village culminated with the live broadcasting of the grand finale of EUROVISION International Song Contest 2022, where the representatives of the Republic of Moldova – Zdob and Zdub, accompanied by Advahov Brothers performed the song “Trenulețul” and finished the 7th with 253 points.
