The Delegation of the European Union in the Republic of Moldova, together with the Embassies of the EU Member States accredited to the Republic of Moldova and the Embassies of the Eastern Partnership countries organised during the entire month of May a series of educational, cultural and interactive events on the occasion of Europe Day 2020. For the first time, Europe Day was marked in the Republic of Moldova during a month in a TV, Radio and online format, bringing into the homes of the Moldovan citizens a series of online dedicated events to mark European values, despite these challenging times..
On the evening of 9 May, when the European Union celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which laid the foundations of the current EU, the audience enjoyed a unique concert, performed by the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra and La La Play Voices, with the participation of about 200 musicians from the Republic of Moldova and the European Union. For those who did not manage to watch the concert, it can be accessed here: https://youtu.be/m7ZSFN1KENU
The programme continued throughout the month with online events for everyone, which highlighted the cooperation between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova, such as:
EUROPE DAY ON TV AND RADIO
A series of programmes attended by the Ambassadors of the EU Member States accredited to the Republic of Moldova, hosted by five partner radio stations and seven television stations. The broadcasts covered a wide range of topics such as the history of the European Union, cooperation between the EU and the Republic of Moldova, the EU assistance programmes that the country benefits from to the bilateral relations between the Republic of Moldova and the EU Member States. Viewers and listeners were able to learn about the European course of the EU Member States, the major challenges they faced before and after accession, the lessons learned and, respectively, the good practices that the Republic of Moldova could take over in order to faster align national legislation with the European one and reach the standards of living of the European Union. Increased attention has been paid in all TV and Radio programmes to the EU support in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, when immediate solidarity has been and remains crucial. The TV and Radio shows can be accessed at https:// www.eu4moldova.md/ro/ziua-europei-2020.
EUROPEAN FILM AND CULTURE FESTIVAL
20 feature and documentary films, animations and concerts were carefully gathered from the EU Member States and Eastern Partnership countries and offered to the general public to learn more about European cinema and culture.
THE VIRTUAL EUROPEAN VILLAGE
This time, the traditional outdoor village has opened its doors through interactive activities in the online environment. Thus, from children to grownups, the spectators enjoyed dedicated activities — educational and culinary shows, sports and interactive sessions for parents and children, a webinar on emotional balance during the crisis, as well as a virtual photo exhibition with Soroca Fortress. The activities of the Virtual European Village culminated in a drawing and poetry competition for children and young people, with the winners to be announced in July.
The events were organized under the motto “Europe Day 2020: Stronger together! Solidarity for Health!”, by the EU project “Visibility of EU and EU assistance in the Republic of Moldova in 2020”, implemented by Particip GmbH, in partnership with the EU project „Strategic Communication and Media Support in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented by Commwithus. The Agenda of the events can be found on the following link: https://www.eu4moldova.md/ ro/ziua-europei-2020, and the archive of online activities is available on the Facebook page Europe Day in Moldova.
