Another 13 families from the districts of Briceni and Sîngerei will benefit from financial support for the energy renovation of their homes through the financing programs of the Residential Energy Efficiency Fund (REEF). For this purpose, the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) signed today the financing contracts with the beneficiaries. The construction works will be contracted through transparent public tenders.

The support is granted in the context of the initiative to increase the energy efficiency of individual households in rural areas with extreme energy vulnerability, financially supported by the European Union. Under the pilot project, the European Union will finance 50% of the eligible expenditure for the energy rehabilitation of 180 vulnerable households in rural areas.

The REEF will cover up to 45% of the eligible costs of energy efficiency works, while the beneficiaries’ contribution will be only 5%.

With the help of these financial sources, beneficiaries will be able to take concrete steps towards more energy efficient and comfortable homes. The support provided will allow them to implement a number of essential measures, such as insulating external walls and foundations, rehabilitating the roof, replacing external doors and windows or upgrading heating systems. The installation of a solid biofuel heating plant will also be possible – a sustainable and affordable solution for thermal comfort. All these interventions help to reduce energy consumption, lower monthly costs and improve quality of life.

This initiative comes as a substantial support for families in rural localities facing high levels of energy poverty. The aim is to support families to improve the energy efficiency of their homes and thus reduce energy costs. This is the first time that the population of the Republic of Moldova has direct access to government energy efficiency financing programmes. A priority for CNED is that this financial support brings real and visible improvements for those who need it most“, stated Ion Muntean, Director of CNED after signing the contracts with the beneficiaries.

The FEERM program is developed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with the financial support of the European Union, implemented by the National Center for Sustainable Energy and the Ministry of Energy, financially supported through the project “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for Moldova” (E4M). E4M is initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and co-financed by the European Union, Germany, Norway and Denmark. This component is funded by the European Union with an allocated budget of € 1 million for about 180 households included in the pilot project.

The project reflects the commitment of authorities and international partners to support Moldova’s transition to sustainable energy and better living conditions for all its citizens.

The National Centre for Sustainable Energy (CNED) is the public institution subordinated to the Ministry of Energy which has the mission to coordinate and organize activities aimed at ensuring the implementation of state policy in the assigned areas of activity, including by attracting and managing financial resources for the financing and promotion of projects and programs in the respective areas in an environmentally sustainable, climate change, and contribute to increasing the country’s energy security.
