European Heritage Days 2024 in Chisinau

27/09/2024

Every September, citizens of the Republic of Moldova are invited to explore historical monuments and participate in events that showcase cultural heritage from across Europe, as part of the European Heritage Days (EHD). This initiative is jointly organised by the Council of Europe and the European Union.

The European Heritage Days offer participants the opportunity to discover not only famous landmarks but also lesser-known cultural treasures that are typically inaccessible to the public. In 2024, the theme selected by the Council of Europe is Routes, Networks, and Connections.

This year, the European Heritage Days in Moldova are being celebrated within a Cultural Forum, held on 26 September at the National History Museum of Moldova. The forum is dedicated to the protection of cultural heritage and brings together experts and leaders from various sectors. Additionally, institutions under the Ministry of Culture are organising a variety of cultural activities.

On the same day, at the opening of the European Heritage Days, we also celebrated the European Day of Languages, which coincided with the International Festival of Literature and Translation (FILIT) in Chisinau. Together with strategic partners, the teams from EU Member State embassies in Moldova, and writers from both Moldova and abroad, the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova marked the richness of linguistic diversity and the chance to discover European cultures through literature.

The European Day of Languages has been celebrated annually on 26 September since 2001.
