Water Data Hackathon Moldova: A contest on sustainable water resource management
Join us for an exciting hackathon focused on open data for water! Apply by 22 November 2024. Are you passionate about sustainable water resource management? Do you have an idea that can help manage data, simplify it and make it more accessible for the public? Then join our “Water Data Hackathon” and help shape a sustainable future for Moldova.
The two-day “Water Data Hackathon” will take place on December 04-05 and will focus on sustainable water governance, allowing participants to join efforts in developing digital solutions that will support decision makers and help engage all stakeholders in water resource management.
The hackathon is organised by the European Union with the support of NGO „Renașterea Rurală” in close collaboration with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova.
Why care for sustainable water management?
Water resources in the Republic of Moldova face significant challenges due to factors such as climate change, inefficient irrigation and water use practices, and pollution. Moldova relies heavily on its rivers, lakes and groundwater for freshwater supply. However, increased demand from agriculture and industry, coupled with aging infrastructure, strains these resources. Climate change exacerbates the situation further, leading to irregular precipitation patterns, increase in evapotranspiration and diminishing glacier meltwater.
Why participate?
Access to reliable and comprehensive data and information is indispensable for decision-makers in the water sector. Informed decision-making relies heavily on accurate information about water quantity, quality, usage patterns, and environmental impacts. Transparent data sharing also promotes stakeholder engagement and fosters collaboration among government agencies, research institutions, NGOs, and communities, facilitating collective efforts towards water security and resilience.
Participating in “Water Data Hackathon” is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in Moldova’s future and economic development.
Join us to help shape a more sustainable future for Moldova while gaining valuable experience and the chance to secure funding for your innovative ideas.
