IZ and implementing partner organisations have completed the selection process of the second call for project proposals under the European Union’s Local Grants Programme (LGP). Following an extensive administrative, technical-financial evaluation process, as well as field visits and online meetings with applicant organisations, the EU approved 29 projects to be awarded grants. Civil society organisations and media organisations from the north, centre, south and ATU Gagauzia development regions, will implement projects in total amount of approx. 622,800 EUR.
The Local Grants Programme aims to empower the citizens of the Republic of Moldova to participate in local decisionmaking actively and constructively on sustainable development (economic, social, and environmental) and local service delivery in their communities. On 9 February 2021, in Străşeni and Călăraşi, EU Ambassador Peter Michalko had the opportunity to meet the civil society organisations and hand over the grants’ certificates to the new selected grants beneficiaries from these districts. Like those from the first call, the winning organisations will benefit from training and exchange of experience and good practices, organised by GIZ and its partners. Thus, following the two calls within the LPG, 105 local and media projects are financed, in a total amount of 2.6 million EUR. The projects aim to involve citizens and civil society organisations in decisionmaking processes, monitoring investment projects in the field of water supply and sewerage, waste management, energy efficiency, and increasing the level of information and awareness of related environmental issues and climate change. The Local Grants Programme is launched on the basis of the Single Support Framework of the European Union (EU), to the Republic of Moldova (2017-2020) under the European Neighbourhood Instrument, through the project “Citizens’ empowerment in the Republic of Moldova” (2019-2021), funded by the EU and implemented by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ (GIZ Moldova) in partnership with API.
