Teachers explore new areas to teach subjects of the future

29/09/2021

The quick pace at which information technologies influence the education system has determined the educational staff from the southern region of the Republic of Moldova to study new school subjects and adopt new methodologies in order to make the teaching process more efficient. In the southern region of the country, 78 teachers representing 37 schools of Cahul District have embarked on the training program for educational staff, studying the professions of the future under the “Tekwill in Every School” Project – the most comprehensive national program of online extra-curricular courses. The initiative has been elaborated within the “EU4Moldova: Start-up City Cahul” Project, and is implemented by ATIC, the financial assistance being provided by the European Union in partnership with Sweden.

Aurelia Bacalov, Teacher of Romanian Language and Literature, Cantemir District: “I have registered for those three Project courses, namely Entrepreneurship, Algorithm Programming and Graphic Design, due to several reasons. First of all, we have no Teacher of Computer Science in our school. But this fact shall not be an impediment for our school students in getting closer to the professions of the future. We live in the Century of Innovation and, therefore, we shall keep the pace with the changes that occur in the world. That is why I also completed my Master’s Degree studies during 2018-2020, having acquired the specialization on “Creating Educational Software”. Moreover, the school students are outstandingly enthusiastic and curious to study Programming, Graphic Design, Entrepreneurship and other subjects.”

The educational staff engaged in the training program also enjoyed mentorship so that they could start teaching in autumn the professions of the future to their pupils attending the schools located in four districts of the Southern Region of Moldova, i.e. Cahul, Cantemir, Leova and Taraclia. Likewise, the teachers have been trained to integrate innovative teaching methods with the classroom learning process so that the pupils could acquire new skills in an easier manner. During the upcoming school year, approximately 20,000 school students between 13-19 years of age will study at least one out of the six courses available on the platform: Algorithm Programming, Web Design and Development, Graphic Design, Artificial Intelligence, Design and Development of Mobile Applications, and Entrepreneurship.
