EU support for Moldovan civil society: strengthening oforganisational efficiency and capacity development

07/12/2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many CSOs in Moldova having immediate needs for financial and technical support, as well as long-term, structured strategies to adapt to the changing circumstances and rebuild their work.  To overcome these difficulties, Hai Moldova and Tineretul Găgăuziei received support from the European Union to implement capacity development activities, including training in conducting risk assessments, creating contingency plans, and developing appropriate strategies.

Hai Moldova and Tineretul Găgăuziei will benefit from grants of up to 15,000 EUR each as part of the four-year project “COVID-19: Civil Society Resilience and Sustainability” funded by the European Union and implemented by ERIM.

The support aims to strengthen the governance and managerial skills of the CSOs, to enable them to be more effective and accountable institutions within their community. In the coming months, the grants will cover the necessary expenses to help the organizations to reach targeted operational goals: supporting the capacity building abilities of the staff, and developing, improving, and implementing related internal policies and documents.

Hai Moldova, based in Chișinău, is known in the country for conducting campaigns with the aim to raise the public awareness on environmental issues. They will take part in an organizational assessment to identify their strengths and weaknesses and will receive support to adjust their internal policies and to develop their skills. Hai Moldova! The staff will also attend two international training sessions to get official certifications in environmental protection and waste management. The lessons learned will help the team to better adapt local and national environmental public policies to the European Union legal Standards.

Tineretul Găgăuziei, the second grantee, operates in the Gagauz Autonomous Region of Moldova and it is based in Comrat. Their activities will focus on developing a more comprehensive strategic plan to include both long-term and short-term goals. Moreover, the organisation is focusing on creating a resilience plan to learn how to manage the negative impacts in occurrence of a crisis.
