EU encourages green investments in the Republic of Moldova
The European Union for Environment / EU4Environment programme aims to demonstrate how to attract green investment and use limited public funds to encourage the private sector to invest in clean and economically, environmentally and socially important projects.
The EU4Environment project “Facilitating Green Public Investment in Moldova: Implementing the Clean Public Transport (CPT) Program” is implemented in 2020-2021 by the OECD in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova and is a continuation of technical assistance provided in 2017-2018 in preparation of the CPT Program.
The main objective of this assistance is to increase the capacity of local public authorities in Moldova to implement the CPT Program and, more importantly, to implement similar green public investments in the future (with a focus on less polluting mobility, but also other environmental aspects). Similar green public spending programs can help allocate financial resources from the national budget, but also stimulate international funding and private investment in cleaner and more environmentally friendly technologies and equipment.
The same approach emerges from the aspirations of the Republic of Moldova to integrate and implement objectives of the European Green Deal in our country, to promote the values of economic development in harmony with the environment, promoting green principles in all sectors, sustainable public transport and the circular economy. It could become a reality in order to protect the environment, reduce the impact of pollution on health and prevent climate change.
