Citizens in the north will benefit from energy efficiency projects and improved water supply services – all funded by the European Union

On 4 February 2021 construction works for European Union (EU) funded projects were launched in the North Region: the water supply (WS) project in Drochia town and the energy efficiency (EE) project at the ‚Iurie Boghiu’ Gymnasium from Flamânzeni village, Sângerei rayon. The goal of these projects is to provide the inhabitants of Drochia town with quality water supply services and to ensure better educational conditions for students and teachers at the ‚Iurie Boghiu’ Gymnasium from Flamânzeni village, Sângerei rayon.

The projects ‘Improving Water Supply services in the Drochia town’ and ‘Increasing the energy efficiency of the ‘Iurie Boghiu’ Gymnasium in Flamânzeni village, Sângerei rayon’ are funded by the European Union. They are implemented in cooperation with the project “Modernisation of Local Public Services in the Republic of Moldova’ managed by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ (Moldova), in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (AMRDE), and financially supported by the German Government (BMZ).

The construction works will be completed by the end of 2021 and will include a series of modernisation measures. Thus, energy efficiency will include the repairing the roof, insulation of building’s walls, replacement of windows, rehabilitation of the heating system, provision of hot and cold water in school, and renovation of the sanitary facilities. The total value of the ‚Increasing the energy efficiency of the ‚Iurie Boghiu’ Gymnasium in Flamânzeni village’ project is 877,000 EUR, of which 866,000 EUR are provided by the EU and 11,000 EUR are covered from local contribution. The total number of beneficiaries amounts to over 300 students, teachers and auxiliary staff of the Gymnasium. At the same time, the construction of the water supply system in the Drochia town will include 19.5 km to which over 1,200 individual households will be connected, modernisation of two drinking water pumping stations and rehabilitation of 5 artesian wells. The total investments regarding water supply in Drochia town are of 4.3 million EUR, of which 3.9 million EUR are provided by the EU and 311,000 EUR – local contribution. Approximately 20,000 of Drochia inhabitants will benefit from drinking water supply services.
