Denmark announces over €9 million in new financial support for Moldova
Denmark strengthens its support for Moldova by announcing a new financial package of €9.4 million, focused on key areas such as energy efficiency, combating disinformation, security, electoral support, and gender equality. This assistance continues Denmark’s strong commitment to Moldova’s democracy and stability in the context of its integration into the European Union.
Ole Thonke, Denmark’s Under – Secretary for Development Policy from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, visited Moldova from 16 – 17 September 2024, to participate in the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform. During the conference, the Under – Secretary announced Denmark’s new financial support for Moldova, which will be allocated to the following areas:
- €2.7 million for energy efficiency
- €2.7 million for combating disinformation
- €2 million for strengthening the security sector
- €1.3 million for electoral support
- €700,000 for gender equality initiatives.
“I am impressed by the progress made so far and by Moldova’s intense efforts to become a member of the European Union,” stated the Under – Secretary. “Now, more than ever, it is crucial to strengthen resilience, security, and stability in Moldova. Denmark’s assistance will reinforce cooperation in priority areas, working closely with Moldovan authorities and civil society organisations.”
The newly announced assistance to these key sectors underscores Denmark’s longstanding support for democracy and stability in Moldova as the country moves toward EU integration. This additional aid complements the existing support, bringing Denmark’s active programs in Moldova to a total value of over €40 million.
