Moldova Granted the Right to Export Fodder Crop Seeds to the EU
Fodder crop seeds produced in the Republic of Moldova can now be exported to EU countries. The decision was made on 12 June 2025 by the Council of the European Union. Fodder crops are plants specifically grown for feeding animals (such as barley, alfalfa, clover, silage corn, etc.).
This means that Moldovan fodder crops can now be officially certified by the national competent authority, the National Food Safety Agency, and exported to EU member states. The move strengthens Moldova’s economy and opens up new development opportunities for local producers.
The granted equivalence confirms that Moldovan seed material provides the same guarantees regarding seed characteristics, identification, and control, and field inspection standards as those applied to seeds produced in EU countries.
This measure allows Moldovan producers to diversify the range of crop species they grow for seed production aimed at export. At the same time, it will help ensure a continued supply of high-quality Moldovan seeds to the European market.
The approved decision will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union.
