Interns Explore Digital Public Services and the EU Enlargement Process

The 150 interns of the joint Internship Programme of EU, Denmark and the Government of the Republic of Moldova, as well as of the state-funded one, had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Moldova’s digital transformation and the European Union enlargement process during two dedicated information sessions that took place today, 11 August.

The first session introduced the interns to the work of the Electronic Governance Agency (e-Government Agency) and the role of digitalisation in improving public services. Olesea Berestean, head of unit within the Agency, dwelt on the development of digital public services, the benefits of accessible and user-friendly e-government solutions, and the importance of technology in making interactions between citizens, businesses and public institutions more efficient.

The discussion highlighted how digital transformation can contribute to greater transparency, reduce administrative burdens and improve the quality and accessibility of public services. The interns also had the opportunity to learn more about Moldova’s progress in building a modern digital public administration and about the role of innovative solutions in bringing public services closer to citizens.

The second information session focused on EU enlargement. Katerina Fatsea, Enlargement coordinator within the EU Delegation to Moldova, offered the interns an overview of the enlargement process, its principles and the steps countries undertake on their path towards EU membership. The session provided an opportunity to discuss the importance of reforms, alignment with EU standards and the role of citizens and institutions in advancing the European integration process.

Particular attention was given to the opportunities and responsibilities associated with EU membership, as well as to the broader significance of enlargement for strengthening democracy, economic development, cooperation and stability across Europe.

By engaging with experts and exploring these topics, the interns gained a better understanding of how public administration is evolving and how Moldova’s digital and European agendas are interconnected with the lives and opportunities of its citizens.

The information sessions are part of the internship programme, which aims to provide young people with practical knowledge about public institutions, ongoing reforms and Moldova’s European integration process.
