From billions of euros to concrete changes: “Where’s the money?” seeks the answer in Moldova’s communities

What does European Union support actually mean for an entrepreneur, a teacher, a farmer, or a young person in a community in the Republic of Moldova?

The “Where’s the money?” campaign aims to answer this question through concrete examples and the stories of people who have benefited from European investments.

In each of the ten regions included in the campaign, content creators will visit EU-supported projects and talk directly with beneficiaries. Sometimes, the answer to the question “Where’s the money?” will be a business that has managed to grow. Other times—a modernized school, infrastructure or better local services, an agricultural project, a youth initiative, or an investment that has contributed to job creation.

Between 2021 and 2025, the European Union allocated over 1.2 billion euros in grants to the Republic of Moldova. Added to this is the Growth Plan for Moldova, worth 1.9 billion euros, the largest support package ever offered to the Republic of Moldova by the European Union.

But figures in the millions or billions can seem abstract when they are not tied to what happens in a village, a town, a school, or a business.

That is why “Where’s the money?” moves the discussion from figures to the ground.

The campaign also addresses people who have questions or doubts about European support. Instead of abstract explanations, it offers examples that can be verified: projects that can be visited, beneficiaries who can share their own experience, and results that can be seen.

The stories discovered on the ground will be documented through videos, interviews, and short materials, published in Romanian and Russian. Thus, the experiences of the communities can also be followed by those who do not participate in local events.

Throughout the campaign, the route, visited projects, and people’s stories will be available on eu4moldova.eu, Europe Café’s Facebook and Instagram, and the “Where’s the Money” TikTok.

Because the answer to the question “Where’s the money?” can sometimes be very simple: go, ask, and see for yourself.
