Izvoare: Support and a meeting place for vulnerable people

Washing clothes and maintaining personal hygiene can become difficult for elderly people or those who do not have the necessary conditions at home. In the village of Izvoare, an integrated social service addresses these needs by providing free laundry, personal hygiene and socialisation services.

Launched in November 2024, the initiative aims to improve the lives of around 200 vulnerable people. Beyond practical assistance, the service also creates opportunities for people who live in isolation to meet and socialise.

The “Solidarity for the Solitary” project was implemented by the “Pro Comunitate Băhrinești” NGO and Izvoare City Hall as part of an EU-funded programme. The European grant was complemented by contributions of 120,000 lei from the local mayor’s office and approximately 138,000 lei from the National Employment Agency. In this way, European support and local resources were brought together to create a service for the community.
