Cimișlia: Two Sports Courts Bring an Unused Space Back to Life

Two multifunctional sports courts built with financial support from the European Union provide children, young people and athletes with facilities for basketball, volleyball and tennis. They can host competitions and training sessions, as well as recreational activities and outdoor community events.
The total investment in the two courts amounts to 5.4 million lei: 3.8 million lei was contributed by the EU, while 1.6 million lei came from Cimișlia City Hall. The courts feature playing surfaces designed to withstand various weather conditions and modern spectator stands. Their design also provides for safe access for persons with disabilities.
The transformation is significant not only because of the new facilities but also because an underused space has been brought back into use. At the inauguration, Mayor Sergiu Andronachi explained: “Eight months ago, this site, right in the heart of our town, was completely unused and underutilised.” The investment has now given the space a new purpose for the community.
The project was implemented under the “EU4Moldova Resilient: Secure State, Strong Communities” initiative, implemented by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.
