Better sanitation and hygiene facilities for students in rural schools
Project Description
The project “Better sanitation and hygiene facilities for students in rural schools” is led by Caritas Czech Republic together with local partners. It addresses the urgent problem of poor access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene in Moldovan schools, where many students still rely on outdoor latrines and lack proper facilities. The initiative will target 25 schools, 25 parents and teachers’ associations, and around 2,500 students, with a focus on rural and small-town communities. Its main outputs include upgrading water supply systems, constructing or rehabilitating hygiene facilities, and providing education on hygiene practices, including free sanitary products for girls. The action also integrates cross-cutting issues such as gender equality, disability access, environmental sustainability, and community participation. Implemented over 36 months, the project contributes to Moldova’s national strategies on water, sanitation, and education, while strengthening the role of civil society in community development.
