EU High Level Advisers: National Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risk Assessment Report, presented publicly

11/07/2022

The second National Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Risk Assessment Report was officially presented to the relevant authorities and stakeholders during a launching event on 8 April, which was jointly organised by the Office for Prevention and Fight against Money Laundering and the European Union High Level Advisers Mission to the Republic of Moldova.

The event gathered more than 50 representatives of Parliament, Government institutions, law enforcement agencies, international development partners, business and civil society organisations. The aim of the event was to present the threats and vulnerabilities of the national Anti-Money Laundering/Combatting Financing of Terrorism regime and familiarise the participants with the content of the document, especially those parts related to risk level of each evaluated sector – banking, insurance, currency exchange units, real estate, non-banking credit organisations, non-financial businesses and professions (notaries, accountants, lawyers).

The assessment exercise lasted for two years and was carried out at country level, on the basis of the provisions of the Law No. 308/2017 on preventing and combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The report is the result of a cooperation process between 18 institutions (supervision entities, law enforcement institutions, judicial and prosecution branch), under the coordination of the Office for Prevention and Fight against Money Laundering under the Government of the Republic of Moldova. It will constitute the basis for the improvements of the National Action Plan on Anti-Money Laundering. This exercise was supported by three of the EU High Level Advisers working under the Mission financed by the European Union.
