EU Provides Electricity Compensation for Businesses

24/03/2025

The electricity compensation program, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova, aims to support entrepreneurs affected by rising electricity costs.

This €15 million support package is part of the EU’s broader €310 million grant to Moldova, benefiting families, businesses, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The mechanism was approved by the Commission for Emergency Situations on 17 January 2025. With the state of emergency expiring, the government has taken steps to ensure the program’s continuity. Adjustments have also been made to improve accessibility and fairness, including removing the 3% eligibility criterion, extending the application deadline, and prolonging the program’s duration.

As a result, 50% of the electricity tariff increase will continue to be compensated.

Entrepreneurs engaged in the following economic activities, according to CAEM-2 classification, are eligible:
Agriculture, forestry & fishing (01.11 – 01.64, except for 01.15)
Manufacturing industry (10.11 – 23.20, except for 10.41; 10.42; 11.01-12.00; 18.20-19.20; 20.30-20.59)
