EU4Moldova: Focal regions programmebeneficiaries: Vegetables grown in Cahul in environmentally friendly greenhouses

Victor Voina is a native of Cahul who had been working for many years in Romania in the agricultural sector. The experience gained in the neighbouring country motivated him to establish a groceries-related business activity at home, in Roșu village from Cahul rayon.

The EU4Moldova: Focal Regions grant will help him expand the business. The 25 000 EUR, added to his own contribution, are being invested in the construction of a greenhouse for the vegetables cultivation, with a waste oil heating system.

The salad, green onions, dill, parsley, mint, arugula, basil grown by Voina family will be commercialized to the regional HoReCa network, but they will also provide the pizzeria – another family business – with fresh home-grown greens. The construction works are in full swing; this year the first vegetables harvest being planned. The investment will help to create 4 jobs.

One of the innovative ideas for the future is the cultivation of potted vegetables, which will be obtained by recycling used packaging and taken from the partner places (metal boxes from cans, plastic packaging and other containers). In turn, these pots with greenery will be commercialized and offered as a bonus to permanent customers.
