EU4Moldova: Startup City Cahul project supports Moldovan Students in testing their digital competences

Tens of thousands of digitally connected students and young people are discovering and applying their ingenious skills and ideas in various activities and projects during the Code Week. This year, students from Cahul, Taraclia, Leova and Cantemir also joined the international community and explored their digital creativity in relevant events.

After completing the Tekwill in Every School training program, teachers in 12 schools taught primary school children to develop digital content, such as games, stories and animations, using Scratch programming language. A teacher in Cahul came up with the idea of creating, together with her students, a digital animation that she uses to tell children about the importance of internet safety and the need to discuss the problems kids face online with adults. Her creativity and skills were recognized and rewarded by the marathon organizers, EU4Moldova: Startup City Cahul, who awarded her with a tablet.

During the same Code Week, several young people joined a hackathon to identify eco-friendly solutions that could be implemented in regions to address environmental issues. Participating teams will be guided throughout the school year by a team of mentors, IT professionals and environmental experts to develop a viable digital solution. The final projects are due to be presented to a jury in May next year.
