Europe Day 2019

On the occasion of the Europe Day 2019, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova organized the traditional European Village. This year the events in Chisinau, Cahul and Tiraspol were dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the Eastern Partnership.

During the two days of events and activities in Chisinau, 11 and 12 May, children and young people had a special program. All participating organizations and embassies have been preparing activities for children, the children’s area has been offering painting and European language lessons, and in the Urban Vibes area, all of them have learned about street art from professional graffitist invited to the event.

The evening of May 11, continued in the Cathedral Square with a concert of the Moldovan National Youth Orchestra, organized in partnership with UNICEF, and on Sunday at the European Film and Culture Festival, the visitors had a jazz recital, a concert of Via Dacă, and the latest European quality films.

Events dedicated to Europe Day continued on May 18th and 19th in Cahul, where visitors of the European City tasted the cultures and gastronomy of EU member countries and participated in the activities organized by the EU technical assistance projects. In the evening took place a concert with Cristina Scarlat followed by the live broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest. Next day, activities in Cahul continued with European Days of Film and Culture.

Embassies of EU Member States, as well as European Union’s assistance projects, welcomed visitors to their tents and provided to the public various publications, photo exhibitions and prizes for the most active participants. The students from the University were very curious to find out about the most popular tourist destinations from European countries, to discover their culture and to explore the studies’ offer of universities in Europe.

The visitors enjoyed the music, exchange of conversations and learned about the European Union’s contribution to improving the lives of people on both sides of the Nistru River, through small businesses and social infrastructure projects.

This year’s edition of the Football Tournament, traditionally organized by the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova, was dedicated to children and young people, and the theme of the event was #StrongerToghether.

The tournament teams were made up of embassy employees accredited in the Republic of Moldova and members of international organizations. And the entrepreneur Dmitri Volosin, ultramarathonist and holder of the title IRONMAN, spoke to those present at the tournament about his experiences as a sportsman.
