EUROPE DAY 2025: ‘PEACE, PROSPERITY, DIGNITY – EUROPE IS YOU!’

25/04/2025

The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, together with the Embassies of the EU Member States, marks Europe Day 2025 in several regions of the Republic of Moldova. The traditional European Village will be organised this year in Chișinău on 9 May and in Căușeni on 17 May, offering educational, creative and interactive activities and surprises for all generations. Europe Day 2025 marks the fundamental values that have underpinned the formation and development of the European Union – principles that have transformed the 27 member states into prosperous countries dedicated to promoting human rights, peace and progress. Europe Day 2025 also marks the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration (9 May 1950), which laid the foundations for the European Union as we know it today.

Under the theme ‘PEACE, PROSPERITY, DEMNITY – EUROPE IS YOU!’, Europe Day 2025 will be marked throughout the month of May with activities and events planned in several regions of the Republic of Moldova. They will highlight the continued support of the European Union and its Member States to the Republic of Moldova, as well as the rich cultural diversity that defines the member countries of the European family. This year, the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova will feature prominently in the Europe Day events.

“On Europe Day, we celebrate unity, peace, and prosperity — fundamental values that bring us together as we build a common future in our great European family. Above all, peace is the foundation upon which everything else is built. A country that chooses war, destruction, and oppression is doomed to corruption and lawlessness. Russia’s war against Ukraine is a painful reminder of what truly matters. Moldova has felt the impact of Russia’s pressure — through economic intimidation, energy blackmail, and disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing society. And yet, Moldova has stood firm. Moldova remains strong. Because it is not alone.

The European Union stands with you! When a Moldovan farmer gains access to European markets, when a student goes abroad through the Erasmus+ programme, when a village receives clean drinking water with EU support — these are real changes in people’s lives.

This year, on Europe Day, let us reaffirm our commitment to the values that unite us and make us stronger: Peace, Prosperity, and Dignity. Because Europe is not just a place. Europe is an idea. Europe is a choice. Europe is your family. And Europe is YOU,” stated Jānis Mažeiks, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

In the capital city, the European Village will be organised on 9 May in the Great National Assembly Square. 19 EU Member States are ready to share their cultural and culinary traditions with the visitors of the European Village in Chișinău. 56 EU-funded projects providing assistance in various fields such as rural, economic and social development will provide visitors with information about the activities and who are or can become concrete beneficiaries of this assistance. In the evening, the public can enjoy an exceptional concert by Vali Boghean, Marej, Vopli Vidopleasova from Ukraine, Zdob and Zdub and LUPII lui Calancea together with GUZ and the Osoianu Sisters.

the European Village organised on the occasion of Europe Day on 17 May in the centre of Căușeni. The event will culminate with a remarkable concert by the famous Pașa Parfeni, Zdob și Zdub.

European cuisine will be featured in the European Village in both towns, which will also host a range of cultural and interactive activities for all ages: children, youth and adults. And senior citizens – grandfathers and grandmothers – will enjoy dancing, sports, nutrition and health lessons.

Events dedicated to Europe Day 2025 will also be organised in Cahul, Ungheni and other localities, in cooperation with EU-funded projects, local public authorities, the network of Euroclubs and European Information Centres across the country.

Moreover, the European Film and Culture Festival will take place in several localities of the Republic of Moldova, including villages and towns, between 9-31 May. Entry is free for all who want to discover European films, dance, exhibitions and music.
