European Heritage Days 2024 in Chisinau

European Day of Languages in Chisinau

27/09/2024

On the European Day of Languages, we celebrate the cultural and linguistic diversity of the European Union. This year, the celebration coincided with the opening of the International Festival of Literature and Translation (FILIT) in Chisinau.

Together with strategic partners, EU embassy teams in the Republic of Moldova, and writers from both Moldova and abroad, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova celebrated linguistic diversity and the opportunity to explore European cultures through literature. The event was held at the National History Museum of Moldova.

The EU has 24 official languages, including Bulgarian, Czech, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, and Swedish.

Diversity is the key to unity. Today and every day, we celebrate the richness of being different, while standing united by the values we share. We are especially proud that Romanian is among the official languages of the EU.

The European Day of Languages has been celebrated annually on 26th September since 2001.
