European Union promotes advancing and monitoring the rights of persons with mental disabilities from neuro-psychiatric residential institutions
At the beginning of April, was organized the International Conference of the project financed by
European Union “Advancing and monitoring the rights of people with mental disabilities in neuro-
psychiatric residential institutions”. The Conference reunited national and international experts in
inclusion domain, key actors for projects implementation, and persons with disabilities who lived in
residential institutions and now are living in the community.
Projects activities were oriented to raise the awareness of people with disabilities about their rights,
capacity building of civil society organizations to promote and monitor the implementation of the
Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and combating discrimination. The project, in
the amount of 368 118 Euro, has promoted social inclusion of persons with disabilities, based on
their rights and equal chances.
One of the most important results was the development of the free Phone support service for
persons with disabilities “Hotline – 080010808”, that received around 3014 calls during two years.
Over 3000 persons were informed about the rights of persons with disabilities. 32 civil society
organizations were capacitated and got involved in promoting and monitoring of UN Convention on
the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Six local organizations benefited from small grants to
implement projects in the field of social inclusion of persons with disabilities and combating
discrimination.
The project “Advancing and monitoring the rights of people with mental disabilities in neuro-
psychiatric residential institutions” is financed by European Union and implemented by Keystone
Moldova in partnership with the Alliance of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities from the
Republic of Moldova, and the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities.
