“Partnerships between cities of the European Union and its neighbours are very important, as they contribute to improved living standards for the citizens. Close collaboration with European Union Member States brings economic, social and environmental benefits. This EU funded project is a significant opportunity for the Republic of Moldova, and in particular for the City of Chisinau, to engage with partners from Poland in order to implement European Union best practices and experiences for the sustainable development of urban mobility and to bring tangible results for the city inhabitants and visitors. We trust that the envisaged results of the project will contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of citizens, as this is the main priority for the European Union – Republic of Moldova cooperation.” said Mr. Gintautas Baranauskas, representative of European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.
“I am delighted that the best practices of managing the public transport system in Lublin will be shared with the Municipality of Chisinau and I hope that thanks to this project, the residents and guests of the capital city of the Republic of Moldova will benefit from modern, efficient, inclusive and safe urban mobility.” said the Ambassador of Poland to the Republic of Moldova, Bartłomiej Zdaniuk.
The final beneficiaries of the project are all residents and guests of Chisinau municipality, especially those who are actively utilising the municipal transport system.
“It is an extraordinary opportunity for us, as local authorities, to have the possibility to exchange experience within the framework of an important project for the urban development of the municipality of Chisinau, with the support of the European Union. I would like for every resident and guest of the capital to feel the remarkable results obtained in a few years in the field of public transport, for which Chisinau City Hall puts in a lot of efforts.” said Ion Ceban, Mayor of Chisinau municipality.
“Lublin has been constantly developing public transport for nearly 70 years. Currently, it is primarily focused on Electromobility and Ecology. The solutions we implement have a real impact on the increasingly better functioning of public transport in Lublin. I am glad that the competences and knowledge we have acquired over the years will support the City of Chisinau in the process of developing public transport. “MOVE IT like Lublin” project is a chance, both for Chisinau and Lublin, to gain new, valuable experience in an international project, but also a great opportunity to promote our city and Lublin solutions in the field of public transport abroad.” said Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.
In the framework of the project, the Chisinau City Hall, in close cooperation with the Lublin City Hall, will aim to achieve three main objectives: i) improving urban transport policies at the municipal level; ii) increasing the institutional capacities of the Chisinau City Hall, in line with European Union practices in the field of urban mobility; iii) increasing the quality of public transport management in Chisinau by implementing innovative sustainable solutions and technologies. As part of the project, a modern Traffic Monitoring Centre will be set up and a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan for Chisinau will be developed.
