European Year of Youth 2022 – marked in the Republic of Moldova

In order to mark the European Year of Youth 2022, the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova launched the communication campaign “European Year of Youth 2022”. A high-level event was organised on this occasion at the State University of Moldova on 20 April 2022. The event brought together young people and high representatives of EU Delegation, EU Member States Ambassadors and civil society members that marked together the start of the European Year of Youth in the Republic of Moldova. During the event, the representatives of the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes have highlighted different education, employment and training opportunities for young women and men offered through EU assistance to Moldova.

A fair of EU assistance projects and programmes addressed to young people in Moldova was organised at the University where the visitors had the opportunity to exchange and learn more information about the available opportunities for youth offered through EU assistance to Moldova. The information on education programmes (including YEAs who benefited from Erasmus), support for young entrepreneurs and startups, trainings, social inclusion support for youth through EU funded initiatives were presented within the thematic exhibition.


The official event was opened by the rector of Moldova State University, Igor Șarov, with a welcome speech where he expressed his gratitude to the European Union for the opportunities offered to Moldovan students. EU Ambassador, Jānis Mažeiks, talked about the EU assistance addressing young people in the Republic of Moldova under various project/programmes and initiatives. Several EU MS Ambassadors, including Romania, Sweden, Austria, Germany and Latvia have presented the bilateral cooperation creating opportunities to youth in the Republic of Moldova. In the second part of the event, Young European Ambassadors had a presentation about the importance of communication and civic engagement of youth for sustainable development and how the EU is helping to achieve it.

The event culminated with an interactive session organised by the YEAs, a quiz on Kahoot platform about opportunities &programmes for youth funded by EU and EU MS.
