Germany supports the Republic of Moldova in fighting the pandemic at the request of President Maia Sandu addressed to Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel. In this regard, as part of an aid operation of several relevant institutions, Germany provides medical equipment and protective equipment worth 9.6 million euros. These include:

• 100 pulmonary ventilation equipment

• 900 pulse oximeters

• 4 million masks

• 7 million surgical masks

• 500,000 disposable gloves

• 500,000 goggles

• 100,000 protective suits with antiseptic effect

• 50,000 protective suits

The transport of materials to Chișinău takes place through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, under the Team Europa initiative.

The handover ceremony took place on 10.06.2021 at 10.00, at the warehouse on 149A Grenoble Street, Chișinău, in the presence of President Maia Sandu, German Ambassador Angela Ganninger and EU Head of Delegation Peter Michalko.

During the last months, Germany has sent medical and protective equipment worth over one million euros to the Republic of Moldova. Another five million euros were attributed for bilateral GIZ projects in order to mitigate the economic consequences of the pandemic. Germany is also one of the largest funders of the COVAX initiative that aims to ensure worldwide access to safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19.
