Here is the agenda for the European Film Month 2023 short films

European Film Month 2023 in Chisinau continues with a special screening! Starting from November 14, the public can pick up tickets for the five short films screened on Sunday, November 19, starting at 2:50 p.m. at Cineplex Loteanu.

This selection of short films was nominated by the European Film Academy for the “Best Short Film of the Year” award, and one of them was awarded as the winner of the Short Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival 2023. Hereafter, we invite you to learn more about these films.

“27” (France, Hungary), duration: 10 minutes. Director: Flóra Anna Buda, winner of Cannes Film Festival 2023. “27” tells the story of a girl who gets lost in making decisions in her mature life. Alice is 27 years old and even if she is sick of living with her parents, she doesn’t dare to make a change. After a psychedelic party on the roof of a factory, where she has an accident, comes the turning point in her life.

“AQUERONTE” (Spain), duration: 27 minutes. Director: Manuel Muñoz Rivas. The film metaphor tells the journey of a group of strangers on a river, from one bank to the other. The journey becomes unpredictable, it seems to expand, the shore of the destination no longer shows, and the movement itself becomes, perhaps, the only certainty.

“DAYDREAMING SO VIVIDLY FLORES DEL OTRO PATIO OUR SPANISH HOLIDAYS”, duration: 24 minutes. Director: Christian Avilés. A story about the transformations of adolescence told through the lens of a trip undertaken by a group of British teenagers to the Balearic Islands. Will the sun they will enjoy on the island bring light to their daily routine?

“FLORES DEL OTRO PATIO” (Switzerland, Colombia), duration: 16 minutes. Director: Jorge Cadena. The film celebrates courage, freedom and diversity. In a traditionalist and deeply hetero-patriarchal society, a group of queer activists try to fight against the social injustices affecting a region of Colombia. What is it like to go against the grain and stay true to your values in an environment completely unprepared for change?

“HARDLY WORKING” (Austria), duration: 21 minutes. Directors: Susanna Flock, Robin Klengel, Leonhard Müllner, Michael Stumpf. The cartoon satirizes the absurdity of capitalism in a seemingly real world, relying on NPCs (Non-Player Characters) – secondary characters in video games.

One of these five films will be awarded the “Best European Short Film” prize at the European Film Academy awards ceremony on December 9 in Berlin.

The films will be screened one after another, starting from 14:50, Sunday, November 19, at Cineplex Loteanu. The total duration of the screening is 95 minutes. All films are screened in the original language with English subtitles, audience restriction is 16+. The number of places is limited. For those who do not manage to get a ticket at the box office, a waiting line will be created before the screening.
