Launch event: Connecting the Republic of Moldova to the Three Seas Initiative

22/03/2024

Europe Café hosted the event dedicated to the connection of the Republic of Moldova to the Three Seas Initiative.

At the event were discussed the economic opportunities in the context of European integration, the Investment fund of the Initiative and the participation of the Republic of Moldova in the 9th Summit of the Three Seas Initiative and the Business Forum that will take place on April 11, 2024 at Vilnius.

To accelerate the interconnection between the member states, in 2019 an Investment Fund was created within the Initiative on commercial bases and market principles to facilitate the financing of joint projects in the fields of transport, energy and digital infrastructure. The Fund’s resources complement the efforts of the national budgets and those of the private sector, as well as the European funds present in the region, thus ensuring investment in multiple projects at different stages of implementation.

The Three Seas Initiative is a political platform of EU member states in Central and Eastern Europe. Its purpose is to stimulate cooperation in the region, accelerate infrastructure modernization processes and strengthen energy independence.

Currently, 13 EU states bordering the Black, Baltic and Adriatic seas are part of the Initiative: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
