The EU4Youth Alumni Network has launched a Mothers Club in Moldova, set up by a group of young mothers who decided to get together and support each other, thus making a difference in the local community. The club held its fifth meeting in Chisinau on 14 March.
During last week’s meeting young mothers discussed their problems during maternity and got professional support from a specialist psychologist.
“This initiative aims to show that we, mothers, are all in the same boat, and face the same difficulties and challenges during maternity as everyone else who gave birth. Taking into consideration the pandemic situation, we need such a club even more. It matters to me personally, as I am a young mother and I think we really need a safe space where we can be heard and helped,” said Cristina Burduja, one of the organisers of the event.
The mother’s club will be functional for at least two more months with the support of the EU4Youth Alumni Network project. However, the organisers are already looking for ways to continue with the initiative in a more sustainable way.
The EU4Youth Alumni network aims to streamline into a unified network all the beneficiaries of EU Mobility programmes in the Eastern Partner Countries and existing youth networks. One of its activities is for individual alumni to support local initiatives for disadvantaged youth groups in their respective communities.
