The series of open lessons on the history of Chișinău continues
Recently, at the Europe Café, we were delighted to once again welcome a full house at the open lesson organised by A.O. Save Chișinău.
At the second event in the “Why Chișinău?” series, led by historian and architect Sergius Ciocanu, we explored the city’s development during the 18th century.
We learned how the villages of Chișinău and Buiucani became distinct sectors and discussed the diverse communities of Moldovans, Armenians, and Jews. Despite natural disasters like earthquakes and fires, and instances of looting, Chișinău continued to grow, largely due to its strategic position and strong economic ties.
It was a fascinating journey into the city’s past. We look forward to seeing you at the next lesson on 8 November.
This event is part of a four-event series under the project “The City of Chișinău: Urban Evolution and Cultural Heritage,” funded by the Ministry of Culture through the “2024 Cultural Projects Competition” funding programme.
