Around the International Day of Education, which is celebrated on January 24 worldwide, we organized a discussion at the Europe Café, dedicated to the importance of education in the context of the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.

A cup o Europe is a series of thematic events, dedicated to topics related to European values and culture. Each time, we have a special guest at Europe Café, an expert who shares European values and addresses a topic of public interest.

On January 16, we discussed with the members and coordinators of Euro Clubs and Information Centers in Chisinau. Our guest was Daniel Funeriu, the High Councilor of the EU in education and research. We talked about the importance of education in the process of Moldova’s accession to the EU: how can we ensure the balance between safety and freedom for young people?

Moreover, our guest came up with arguments to combat fake news based on examples of real projects implemented by the EU in Moldova. Together we learned how to correctly set our compass in the European direction.

Here is a reminder that the International Day of Education was proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) in 2018, to emphasize the role of education for peace and development.
