A social laundry service was opened in the village of Corpaci (Edineț) with the EU support
With EU support, a social laundry service was established in the village of Corpaci, Edineț district, aimed at helping vulnerable groups. The new facility was inaugurated during a ceremony attended by future beneficiaries, community members, representatives from the EU Delegation in Moldova, and local authorities.
The social laundry offers laundry services, personal hygiene facilities, and social activities, benefiting around 200 people, including those with disabilities, the elderly, low-income families, and other disadvantaged groups. The renovated space is equipped with washing machines, dryers, and a dedicated room for social interaction. The service also encourages community engagement, with partners like educational institutions, the local social worker, cultural organisations, the Romantica Seniors Club, local NGOs, and volunteers.
Mayor Uja Veaceslav expressed his gratitude to the EU for the financial support, noting how the project transformed local resources into practical solutions for those in need. The service operates alongside the existing social canteen, which provides meals and support to the community.
Project coordinator Natalia Zanoagă highlighted the importance of partnerships between local authorities and civil society organisations, which make it easier to access EU funding and address diverse community needs. Irina Beșliu, Program Manager at the EU Delegation, emphasised the role of social services in improving lives, especially in rural areas with limited resources. She noted that the EU would continue to support similar initiatives to foster a culture of solidarity and contribute to a fairer society.
This initiative is part of the “Promotion of CSOs as partners in the development of resilient social services” project, funded by the EU and co-financed by Keystone Moldova, Dorcas-Moldova, and the Neohumanist Education Association. The project aims to create at least 15 social services in various communities, benefiting over 1,500 vulnerable people through free laundry, personal hygiene, and socialising services.
