Călăraşi became brighter after the building of the Museum of History and Ethnography in the town was architecturally illuminated, with the support provided by the European Union. Thus, the inhabitants of Călăraşi, but also its visitors will be able to admire the museum building in all its splendour, both during the day and at night. The architectural lighting of the building of the Museum of History and Ethnography in the city of Călăraşi was officially put into operation on 9 February, during a festive event.
The purpose of the installation is to highlight the architecture of the Museum building during the night, the artistic and cultural value of the building, which will increase the tourist attractiveness of Călăraşi. The works took place within the project implemented with the financial support of the European Union „Efficient public lighting in Călăraşi-Firefly in the heart of forests”, by the City Hall of Călăraşi, in partnership with IDIS „Viitorul”.
The works included the lighting of the constructive and ornamental elements of the building of the Museum of History and Ethnography from Călăraşi with 24 LEDbased projectors for the architectural lighting. The museum courtyard is also lit by several modern lanterns. This will encourage the organization of cultural and artistic activities during the evening and night on the territory of the museum and will be an additional element of motivation for the museum administration to enrich the calendar of events. The architectural lighting of the Museum of History and Ethnography in Călăraşi is particularly important because since 2017 the city of Călăraşi is part of a national tourist route.
The architectural lighting of the Museum of History and Ethnography in Călăraşi cost 145 thousand lei, and the electricity consumption was reduced by 30% compared to January 2020.
The architectural lighting of the Museum of History and Ethnography in Călăraşi is one of the objectives of the energy efficiency project in Călăraşi, implemented with the support of the European Union. The project involves the installation of a 21-kilometer lighting network and the architectural lighting of the History Museum in the city of Călăraşi. As a result, the project will ensure a real saving of 6,500 EUR/year, will reduce CO2 emissions and maintenance and operating costs.
The project „Efficient public lighting in Călăraşi-Firefly in the heart of forests” is implemented by the Călăraşi Town Hall in partnership with IDIS „Viitorul”. The project is funded by the European Union through the European programme “Covenant of Mayors – Demonstration Projects (CoM-DeP)”, part of the EU4Energy initiative.
The EU4Energy Initiative covers all EU support to improve energy supply, security and connectivity, as well as to promote energy efficiency and the use of renewables in the Eastern Partner countries Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. It does this by financing projects and programmes that help to reform energy markets and to reduce national energy dependence and consumption. Over the longer term, this makes energy supply more reliable, transparent and affordable, thus reducing energy poverty and energy bills for both citizens and the private sector.
