Six localities in the Republic of Moldova receive fire engines from Poland

12/01/2026

Throughout 2025, six localities in the Republic of Moldova were equipped with fire engines intended to improve emergency response capacity and enhance the safety of local communities. The vehicles were donated by the Wielkopolska Voivodeship of Poland, and their delivery to Moldova was made possible with the support of the European Union and Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova, within the project “EU4Moldova Resilience – Secure State, Resilient Communities.”

The fire engines are intended for localities where Volunteer Firefighters and Rescuers Posts are already operating or are to be established. The beneficiary localities are Călinești (Fălești district), Gura Bîcului (Anenii Noi district), Sofia (Drochia district), Pepeni (Sîngerei district), Cărpineni (Hîncești district), and Sireți (Strășeni district).

The six fire engines are fully operational and were withdrawn from active service by volunteer fire brigades in the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, Poland, as part of a fleet modernization process.

“We are pleased to support the development of local emergency services and to strengthen solidarity between our communities,” stated Krzysztof Grabowski, Vice-Marshal of the Wielkopolska Voivodeship, Poland.

At the same time, Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova is implementing the project “EU4Moldova Resilience – Secure State, Resilient Communities,” funded by the European Union. Through this project, 10 localities in the Republic of Moldova benefit from grants for the construction from scratch of volunteer firefighter and rescuer posts, while another 9 localities receive support for the renovation of existing posts.

“Through the synergy of these interventions, local communities receive a comprehensive support package—fire engines, modern infrastructure, and equipment for firefighters—which enables the strengthening of volunteer fire brigades at the local level,” highlighted Iwona Piórko, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova.

From 2021 to the present, Solidarity Fund PL has contributed to equipping 10 localities in the Republic of Moldova with emergency response vehicles.

“Our organization’s objective is to expand and strengthen the national network of volunteer firefighters and rescuers. The support provided to local communities directly contributes to saving lives and increasing their safety,” added Tomasz Horbowski, Director of Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

Through the “EU4Moldova Resilience” project, the European Union is investing over 44 million lei in the development of the civil protection system in the Republic of Moldova.
