Chisinau to host the first Moldox Intercultural Lab 2026 – a documentary film workshop dedicated to intercultural dialogue and social cohesion

25/03/2026

MOLDOX, in partnership with CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation, announces the first edition of Moldox Intercultural Lab 2026 – a practical documentary film workshop dedicated to intercultural dialogue, diversity, and the strengthening of social cohesion in the Republic of Moldova.

The workshop will take place in Chisinau from 27 April to 3 May 2026 and represents a format within Moldox Lab, specially designed to document the life of different linguistic, ethnic, and cultural communities, and to create a space for dialogue between them. The activity is organised within the project “Social Cohesion through Dialogue”, implemented by CMI – Martti Ahtisaari Peace Foundation and funded by the European Union.

Over the course of seven days, participants will work alongside professional documentary mentors and go through the essential stages of creating a short documentary film: topic identification, observation, interviews, filming, editing, and public presentation of the final result.

The working languages of the workshop are Romanian and Russian, and the programme will conclude with a public screening and discussion of the films on 3 May.

Applications are invited from individuals from diverse linguistic, ethnic, and cultural communities, including underrepresented communities across the country, civic activists, as well as representatives of national minority organisations and relevant NGOs. No prior film experience is required; motivation, openness to intercultural collaboration, and interest in storytelling, culture, and community engagement are key. Participation is free of charge.

Moldox Intercultural Lab 2026 proposes documentary film not only as an artistic practice but also as a social tool that can contribute to bringing communities closer, increasing the visibility of less-heard voices, and fostering a more empathetic, connected, and cohesive society. Through real stories, observation, and shared reflection, the workshop aims to support intercultural dialogue and active participation in public life.

The activity seeks to strengthen social cohesion in Moldova across generations, cultures, and diverse communities. This documentary film workshop offers individuals from national minorities in Moldova the opportunity to address current issues relevant to their communities, express their perspectives, and bring topics of common interest to the attention of the public and authorities. It contributes to promoting dialogue, active participation, and public awareness through the use of documentary film as a communication and civic engagement tool.

During the workshop, participants will be guided through a practical and participatory process to observe, document, and interpret realities from their own communities. They will also develop the ability to formulate relevant messages, use audiovisual tools for expression, and contribute to strengthening dialogue between communities and public institutions.

Deadline for applications: 31 March 2026
Workshop dates: 27 April – 3 May 2026
Location: Chisinau, Republic of Moldova

Participation conditions
Participation is FREE. Organisers will cover transport, meals, and accommodation costs for participants from outside Chisinau.
