The European Union is supporting Moldova’s green transition and strengthening the competitiveness of its business sector by promoting ESG sustainability reporting – a tool that is becoming increasingly important for companies seeking to attract investment and access EU funding.

ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance – the three key pillars of a modern, sustainable business. It looks at how a company manages its environmental impact, engages with employees, customers, and communities, and ensures transparency, accountability, and good corporate governance.

Getting started can be simple. The first step is to collect the data your company already has: how much energy and water it consumes, how much waste it generates, how it supports its employees, and what internal policies and governance practices are in place. Presented in a concise and well-structured report, this information can strengthen a company’s credibility with banks, investors, and European business partners.

For companies in the Republic of Moldova, ESG reporting is becoming increasingly relevant as the country aligns with European standards. While sustainability reporting remains voluntary for most businesses, market expectations are rapidly evolving. Banks, investors, international clients, and business partners are increasingly requesting information on resource consumption, working conditions, anti-corruption policies, corporate governance, and environmental impact.

The new Practical Guide to ESG Sustainability Reporting for Entrepreneurs in the Republic of Moldova provides step-by-step guidance on how companies can begin collecting and communicating information related to environmental performance, social responsibility, and corporate governance. The full guide is available here.
