EU Enlargement: New Accession Prospects for Montenegro, Albania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine
“European Union enlargement offers an opportunity to build a stronger and more stable Europe, capable of shaping its own future.
The 2026 Enlargement Reports show that we are on track to achieve record progress this year and that the path towards EU accession is becoming increasingly clear for some candidate countries.
Today, we are presenting roadmaps for the four countries that have made the most significant progress in implementing reforms in recent years.
For Montenegro, the roadmap sets out the path towards signing the Accession Treaty as early as June 2027.
For Albania, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, the accession process is gaining new momentum, with clear priorities for the year ahead.
These achievements demonstrate that political will can make a difference. The path towards EU accession remains open to all candidate countries ready to make a similar choice.” Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement
