Moldova: Residents of Gagauzia take part in EU-funded campaign focused on electoral integrity
In August and September, residents of six localities in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia – Chirsova, Tomai, Congaz, Comrat, Ceadîr-Lunga and Vulcănești – took part in an information campaign focused on the integrity of the electoral process and the promotion of accurate information.
Around 60 women aged over 55 from Congaz, Tomai and Chirsova took part in workshops organised by the ‘Pro-Europa’ Association. They discussed electoral rights, recognising manipulation and digital safety, and using simple algorithms to verify information.
The team from the Comrat Legal Clinic visited five localities – Chirsova, Tomai, Congaz, Ceadîr-Lunga and Vulcănești – where they spoke to residents about the importance of a free and informed vote, highlighting the risks of electoral corruption. They also distributed over 3,000 leaflets and other information materials in Gagauz, Bulgarian, Romanian, and Russian.
At the same time, 70 assistants and social workers from Comrat and Ceadîr-Lunga took part in training sessions organised by the ‘Vreau să Cred’ Association. Through practical exercises and case studies based on real-life situations, they discussed professional neutrality, the prevention of corruption and the identification of disinformation.
The awareness-raising campaign was carried out with the support of the European Union project ‘Resilient Democracy through the Fight against Corruption’, implemented by UNDP Moldova.
Elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia and the election of the Bashkan in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia are scheduled for 15 November 2026.
